Ascent Trip Report

I found this ascent a bit more difficult than the other trip reports had lead me to expect. Probably that had something to do with the wind: quite breezy on the way up, probably 50 mph along the ridge line, and much worse than that on the final slope up the peak at the end. I have never experienced winds quite this fierce. I scrambled up and down the last hundred feet on hands and knees. When I tried to stand the wind literally blew me off my feet. I also found the roughly one mile slog across the rocks and boulders on the ridge line tiring. Up to the ridge line the route is pretty straightforward, a bit rocky in many places but nothing really problematic. The grade is quite modest for the first 2 1/2 mi. I had only climbed 1400 feet after 2.7 mi. It gets steeper from there to the ridge line, and steep across the rocks to the peak. On the way back one of my hiking poles split in two and that contributed to a fall further down where I slipped off a rock and had nothing to break my fall. The views from the ridgeline and peak are quite magnificent.
