Training hike before our Whitney hike mid-Sept. Met at Mill Creek Ranger station at 0630, and were hiking up Vivian Creek by 7:30 am. The guard at the kiosk checked our Adventure Passes for parking, as well as our Vivian Creek Trail permit.

Steady hiking up - reached the summit around 12:25 pm with Nate and Ignacia. Peter, Jim, and Mary were speedy and ahead of us by 10 or 15 minutes. Nate did his SOTA work on the summit and after 15 minutes, activated the peak (yeah!). By 1 pm we started descending - same route down as up. By 5:50, we were back at the cars and done for the day. RT time at 10:30 or so -

Overall I felt fine. This has been the 6th time I've climbed this peak, my 4th this year. The challenge was going with a larger group and not with my normal partner. Legs felt a little stiff near the bottom, something that I attribute to hiking at a slower-than-normal pace and having to control every step. I'll make sure to use poles and take the stress off my knees. Heading up to Gorgonio next weekend again with Nate, in order to help him with altitude training before Whitney. Should be fun!

Weather - it held out. I'm still working on not flipping out on high ridges with big clouds blowing up.
