Ascent Trip ReportMatt was able to join me for this hike. It was a short one but its always good having someone along. Directions to this were again in error. but with Matt's GPS and my topographic map, and the help of a homeowner we got to the trailhead. Because Matt was there I failed to keep records of just about everything. The trailhead was poorly marked and cairns helped us to stay on track. The trail was well defined and fairly easy, but nothing told us that we were actually hiking to a fire tower.
On the summit the tower steps, last three groups had been removed and hoisted up to the fourth platform. There was no view from the summit so a little disappointing to both of us. Our discussing was at the removal of the fire tower because it did not belong in a natural setting at the same time the town had put in a huge ATV trail to the summit. (times keep changing, we have an interesting way of justifying everything we do).
GPS reading gave me a 2064' the summit and a parking lot elevation of 1050'. Hike length was 1.1 miles each way and because of the conversation I didn't list any times for the hike. We did meet in town (Corinth)at 7:30 and by 11:30 we were headed in our respective directions.
This Tower/Hike was on the Fire Tower Challenge list through 2014 in the updated list of 2015 this tower has been eliminated and replaced with the Loon Lake Mountain Tower (which had been a closed trail and has now re-opened.)My 19 Towers are now down to 18 as I start 2015.
