Ascent Trip ReportEnjoyed a fun (if hot/humid) hike up and over Barrett Mountain to the northern summit of New Ipswich Mountain via the Wapack Trail. Conditions were solid throughout; early sections of the trail have the feel of a logging road and are a bit overgrown in spots from disuse. Yellow trail markings and cairns throughout made this hike quite easy to negotiate.
Barrett is boreal but a short sidetrail to a lean-to (property of the Windblown Cross Country Skiing facility) provides a lovely view north towards both Grand Monadnock and North/South Pack Monadnock. A viewpoint at the northern summit of New Ipswich also provides lovely vistas.
Finally, the entire trail is a dream for those who enjoy solitude (I encountered only one runner fairly early in my hike).
