Ascent of Deasey Mountain on 2013-08-26
|Date:||Monday, August 26, 2013|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||1964 ft / 598 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThis hike was described as a 5-mile road walk/run, followed by a 2-mile hike, and then back. For the 5-mile road run, there were four stream/river crossings, with "bridges in various levels of disrepair" or some such. In fact, there was one bridge and the other three had to be forded on foot.
First stream: 15' wide, 12" deep at deepest, took off shoes and crossed barefoot.
Second stream: 3' wide, easy to jump across.
Third stream: large sturdy bridge.
Fourth stream: 20' wide, murky and possibly a few feet deep. Had to bushwhack through thick trees and walk across a muddy beaver dam to get across. Feet entirely wet and muddy.
There was a nice little building at the top of the mountain, and also a nice cabin most of the way up. We were the first people there since 2011 and before that the last people were in 2009.
The whole thing took just over 5 hours.
