Ascent Trip Report

A worthwhile day hike from Zermatt with over 5,500 feet of elevation gain. The route climbs past the Chalet Edelweiss up along the Triftbach. Beyond the Hotel Trift (2327m), an unmarked path leaves the main route (to the Rothorn Hut) and climbs up to the Platthorn and its higher neighbor beyond, the Mettelhorn (3406m), which I did not visit. Though high clouds obscured the tops of the Weisshorn and the Mischabel, there were still great views. On the leisurely return I stopped at the Chalet Edelweiss to enjoy a very welcomed Cardinal beer.
