Ascent Trip Report

Arrived yesterday in Grindelwald (1038m) with good friends Murray and Carlo. I was up early today, eager to stretch my legs in the Swiss Alps for the first time. After taking the Firstbahn lift to First (2168m), I headed for the Schwarzhorn (2928m). Without good directions, however, I found myself off-route. I decided to return to First and follow the scenic, well traveled path from there past the Bachalpsee (2265m) up to the Faulhorn and its isolated but popular mountaintop inn. The panoramic view was fantastic--the Brienzsee, and the Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn, and Finsteraarhorn,to name a few of the many peaks. Murray and Carlo joined me at the inn around noon. We enjoyed a leisurely lunch in our grand surroundings before departing about 2:30 for our return to First and the lift down to Grindelwald. A memorable first day in the Alps.
