Our warm up hike the day before we hiked Mt. Whitney. Started from Horseshoe Meadows at the Trail Pass/Cottonwood Pass trailhead going west then crossed Horseshoe Meadow and into the forest. Continued until we reached the PCT and then went north for a couple switchbacks. From here we left the trail and went Xcountry straight up the ridgeline past the treeline to the false summit then further up the ridgeline to the true summit of Trail Peak (11,622 ft). We improvised another cross country route down towards the meadow and hooked up with our original trail and followed it back to the start. Beautiful meadow and forest and great boulders on the summit. Unbelievably quiet as we finished just before dark.
