Ascent Trip Report

I was looking for conditioning and this one with almost 2900 feet and up to 8 miles (depends on which trail(s) you use) fit perfectly. I took Thayne Canyon going up and Desolation trail going down. I don't recommend the Desolation trail either direction but in my defense for using it for the descent, I wanted to see the highly touted Salt Lake Overlook that is available from the Desolation trail. I met a few hikers and trail runners but no one on the mountain. The actual highpoint is not where the register is located. It is an easy scramble to get over to it. I can recommend both the Summitpost page for information and Eric Willhites fine page on his website. This one doesn't have a lot of prominence but it makes you earn what you do get with almost 3000 feet of elevation gain.
