| Date: | Monday, August 12, 2013 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Motorized Transport to Trailhead: | Car | Peak: | Panorama Point | Location: | USA-Washington | Elevation: | 6920 ft / 2109 m |
Ascent Trip ReportPanarama Point was not our goal but we ended up getting it. This was part of our training day to climb Rainier and the guides used the snow bowl under the point for a day of training. The extra gain and mileage was due to the work climbing up and down the slopes several times practicing with the ropes and crampons and self arrest. We got to practice using the anchors and snow climbing along the cornice wall but over where it was safe and around 80 degrees not 90 degree vertical. At this time of year the snow had a steep glissage type trail to the top for the hikers and they were enjoying carefully hiking up to the top and then glissading down to the rocks. I ended up snow climbing the wall and then walking up. |
