Ascent Trip ReportBushwhack to the summit of Kate Mountain starting from county route 60 (also called Gabriels-Onchiota Road) in Vermontville. My hike took me up a dry section of Negro Brook (noticeable from Route 60) to the saddle between summits; from there, the hike took me steeply west to views on the eastern end of Kate's western summit.
I was able to stay within eyeshot of the brook for the duration of that portion of the hike up to the saddle. Going was rough at times; brush and fallen tree detritus was quick thick in spots, necessitating multiple recrossings of the brook.
