Ascent Trip ReportPeak #4 of a 4 peak hike with Jill, Heather, and Lori of SoCal Hikers and Peakbaggers.
Started up the Forsee Creek TH to SB Divide. Up to SB peak first, then East, Washington and descended Angelus Oaks until Tom's Meadow. At the junction, we ascended Gephardt Peak. The peak was very visible as pretty much the ONLY pile of rocks that was high enough in the area to be a peak. Can be accessed from all sides - we followed the trail on the East side and scrambled up a small use trail. There had been people at the peak within a few days, so the footprints were easy to discern. NOT a lot of signatures at the summit.... and there's enough manzanita and scrub brush to make this almost not worth the thorny bits. But we managed to push through and found a nice summit block and small register with names dating back several years and very few signatures. Eventually we descended the way we had come up, and took Tom's Meadow back to the Forsee Creek Trail. Total trip stats - 18.8 miles, 5600+ feet of gain. 8:30 moving time, out for 11 hours total. Nice weather, beautiful day!
