Ascent Trip ReportAccessed via Elk River Trail. Camped in upper valley above Landslide Lake where river reappears from being underground in summer. Summit day carried on to Elk Pass, made camp and then climbed via Spiral Staircase route on late summer snow. Scramble up East Gulley, onto upper Rambler Glacier and up final crack up summit dome. Great climbing and exposure at the top with views of the other major island peaks. Down by same route in deteriorating weather. Camped at Elk Pass and then carried on with our traverse of the Park via Mt. Devoe, Burman Lake and ridge and Phillips Ridge. Plans to climb Behinde and Golden Hinde were scuttled by poor weather and visibility. It was the only place in the Pacific Northwest where it was raining. Hid a geocache at the top of the East Gulley on Rambler. |
