Ascent Trip Report

This mountain is famous for its sun rises because it is supposedly the first point in the U.S. that is hit by sunlight every morning. To take full advantage of this my parents and I started at about 2:30 am to hike up to the summit via the North Ridge for sunrise. We got there just 10 minutes before the sun started to poke out from the horizon with astoundingly beautiful colors. There were many people up there who had driven up the road but we only saw one person on the trail. After sunrise I sprinted down the mountain and drove the car back up to get my parents. It is definitely a very beautiful trail that I highly recommend to anyone with a small degree of fitness.
