Ascent Trip Report

Driving home to Massachusetts from Providence, my Mom and I decided to make a detour to bag our second state highpoint. We quickly traversed the smallest state and reached the sign marking the highest point in Rhode Island. We made the short walk through the woods and stumbled upon the summit boulder, finding ourselves on the roof of Rhode Island! As we came back to the road, we saw a mail truck drive along the road. As it approached us it slowed down and stopped. "Difficult hike, huh?" the mailman asked. He must be used to seeing highpointers make Rhode Island's noblest trek. After some conversation, we discovered that the mailman's daughter had actually climbed Kilimanjaro, just as I had the previous year.
