Ascent Trip ReportA somewhat challenging but fun hike. There is ample parking in the Newfound Gap parking lot. From there, hike out onto the AT towards the Bunion. The first mile can be busy, as many folks park in the parking lot and explore the trail. After a while, traffic gets pretty sparse. Don't be surprised to run into AT through-hikers on the trail; along the way, you'll pass at least one shelter. For a portion of the hike, the AT follows the bed of a creek, which can be challenging. Once you get to the Bunion, the view is absolutely outstanding. Overall, about 8 miles round trip from the parking lot to the Bunion and back.
