Ascent Trip Report

Second time ascending this peak today..... Part of an epic training day in preparation for our 8K Challenge (to climb the 3 highest peaks in SoCal).

Arrived at the cars just before 11 am, took approx 10 min break, and were hiking out of the parking lot be 11:15. Felt tired, but solid and consistent on the way up. I was very careful to make sure to eat enough - in spite of not feeling super hungry, I had 2 cliff shot blocks on the way up. Took a 4-min break at the San Jacinto overlook, and slogged our way up for another hour to the peak. It felt more tiring the first time we ascended and our pace on the second round much slower. However - our final time was only 16 minutes slower during our second round up - probably because we were more relaxed and possibly because we had already ascended to above 11,000 feet and the altitude (maybe???) didn't feel as bad. Regardless, we were on the summit 3:46 after starting out. Spent 11 minutes on the top, and were down at the parking lot at exactly 6:11 pm. Total stats on the day was 13:56 round trip for both hikes.... with only a 20 minute difference the second time around. Took approx 28 minutes of breaks throughout the day, and the total moving time was 13:28.

SOLID day - epic feeling of summiting this peak 2x in one day! 36.4 miles total, 10,7-- feet of gain... awesome!
