Ascent Trip ReportDay 1 in a 3-day hiking (LONG) weekend in the Mt Baldy area. Left San Diego at 5:15 am, and had our Manker Flats campsite reserved by 7:15. Set up a few things and waited to meet hiking parters, Peter & Ignacia. Met up at 8 am and drove down to the Icehouse Canyon TH. We started hiking by 8:30 via Falling Rock Canyon. Steady on the way up, picking a careful route among the boulders and high canyon walls. There were several ducked routes and no specific use trail, as we pretty much just followed the contours of the canyon itself. There were a few dry waterfalls - the first one we cut around to the left and srambled up - the second to the right. Large log that had several rocks on it indicating the scree wall that we had to scramble to reach the ridge and ultimately the peak. LONG time going up, but super fun to slide down. Reached the peak in 2 hours or so - nice views of the Baldy area. Had lunch and returned via the same route we came. 1.5 hours back to the car - took our time scrambling and route finding - fun and great day with some awesome friends!
