Ascent Trip Report

Late spring ascent via the Crystal Peak Bowl. Trail head gate closed adding 2 miles to the round trip from Hwy 89. Trail clear of snow to Floating Island Lake. After that, the snow was still deep and the remainder of the ascent other than the bowl was knee deep 'post-holen'. The bowl was icy and required crampons and ice axe for safe ascent and descent. The weather was clear and there was virtually no wind. The summit rock was clear of snow and was missing its marker and registry box. the entire route was 12 mile round trip due to trail head being closed and the total time on the mountain was 12 hours due to snow depth.
