Ascent Trip Report

Starting out by car in Santa Cruz the clouds were covering the sky! But on the way to Teide we went above the clouds with an incredible view of Tenerife.

We started out from the car-park west of the cable car at about 12:30 and were at the refuge at about 15:30 including three short breaks (maybe 15 minutes total). Temperature at the car park were approximately 15 degrees, and the thermometer at the refuge showed 10 degrees when we arrived there, wind was not too bad.

After watching the sunset and spending the night at the refuge we started our ascent at exactly 05:08 with about 15 people ahead of us, at exactly 06:29 we were at the summit as the first people this morning! Setting out from the refuge the thermometer showed 5 degrees and arriving at the top the temperature felt noticeably cooler, I guesstimate a few degrees above freezing, Wind was strong and fairly steady so the activities at the summit included hiding in the wind-shadow of a rock waiting for the sun to rise! ;)
