Ascent Trip Report

I had talked to two trail runners the day before on the South Charleston Loop Trail and they said there was lots of snow with deep post-holing in the Griffith Peak section of the trail so I started at Trail Canyon TH and took that trail up to the junction with the North Loop Trail and then on to Charleston. There was still snow on the trail in quite a few places were there were north facing gullies but nothing serious as there were footsteps in the snow across most of the traverses. I would have been more comfortable with my trekking poles but never thought of taking them with me. The trail was muddy in places from the melting snow. I made it to the top in 3:27 and was enjoying my lunch when two hikers came up the South Loop Trail and said it took them about 5 hours, with lots of deep post-holing. They said they were not going back that way! I spend about 35 min. on top and then went down the same way.
