Ascent of Grand Wash Cliffs on 2013-04-06
|Date:||Saturday, April 6, 2013|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
|Peak:||Grand Wash Cliffs|
| Elevation:||6769 ft / 2063 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI followed the routes suggested by Kassan & Poulin. The road south of Diamond Bar Road to the fenceline at "Ray Place" covered 4.5 miles and wasn't too bad. Only one section was rocky and rutted enough to warrant 4wd (this occurred about 3 miles in). High clearance is a must, though. Conditions can change over time, of course.
I parked outside the fence and corral at Ray Place (staying on the BLM side) and followed the drainage and the ridges to a point south of the summit, then a series of paths and some bushwhacking to the top. Encountered no cliffs, and brush was thick in spots, but I made decent time (2.5 hours up, 1.75 hours down).
Remote, beautiful area. The views in all directions were incredible.
