Ascent Trip ReportJoined a SoCal hikers and peakbaggers meet-up group for this peak. Steve Fousset was leading, and 2 other hikers attended - Roger and Jacob. The 4 of us set out from the Clark Lake near the base of Coyote Mtn, across the lake to an amazing pictograph site, and then up up up, following Jerry Schaad's description. As it was hot, we stashed water after the first hour, and then after 2.5 hours of hiking. We reached the base of The Wall (final 3000 foot assault on the peak) around 11 am. Hike time up The Wall was around 2+ hours, and we were on the peak from 1-2. Returned to the car the exact way we went up. Total hiking time was 13 hours, with breaks - overall a WONDERFUL hike! Challenging, but very doable in a day. Completely cross country - although there are many varieties and various routes for reaching the peak (as in, many fingers that will lead up to the top ridgeline), this one seemed the best. Before climbing, we stashed a bit of water at the base of the final climb, at a HUGE rock... this same rock was used to mark our way back when we came within site of it. No trail - but Steve had a wealth of knowledge that I've never seen before. GREAT day - challenging and hot, but toally doable. I carried 7+ liters of water, but didn't need that much. Beautiful peak that is rarely visited - it was extremely special to be at the top!
