Ascent Trip ReportThere is a small parking area at the Fork Ridge Trailhead along Clingmans Dome Road, just before you reach the main parking area at the top. Opposite the Fork Ridge Trailhead on the other side of the road is a small path in the foliage leading to the A.T. If you turn left on the A.T., you'll pass the Sugarland Mountain Trailhead, with the summit of Mt. Collins approximately one-half mile beyond. There isn't much at the summit, although there is a substantial break in the foliage just before you reach summit that opens up a view to the south. Continuing along the A.T., it's appx. 2.5 miles to Mt. Love (some minor views), 3 miles to Clingmans, 3.5 to Buckley, and 5.5 to Andrews Bald (2 of which follow the Forney Ridge Trail). |
