Ascent Trip ReportBegan at Pinnacle Park near Sylva. Ascended up to Blackrock Mtn and then on ridgeline to Yellow Face, across Blue Ridge Parkway to Waterrock Knob, Browning Knob, Lyn Lowry, and finally to Plott Balsam.
From Lyn Lowry, go between the cross and the plaque on the rock and head down a STEEP unmaintained trail with some flagging. The trail turns into a jeep trail and levels out. Continue following to a "U" turn and turn right, pass a road to the left and continue right, then cut back left - all within about 50 yards. Jeep trail continues on left of a knob and then drops into a small basin marked with a large tree on the right with a huge branch level with the ground. Continue into basin and road starts to turn right.
Turn left into woods, flagging tape on trees, and ascend thru woods. Sporatic flagging tape, but basically head straight uphill. There a few false summits, but the summit is obvious when everything drops off in all directions. On 3/16/13 there was a small suitcase-size rock on summit, and I left a wooden plaque with the peak name and elevation. It took us 1 hour and 50 minutes from Lyn Lowry and back, and we were moving along quickly. |
