Ascent Trip Report

On the return to Cerro Gordo from New York Butte 10 of us stopped along the Swansea-Cerro Gordo Road at about 8,800' to climb Pleasant Point, an easy hike with about 700' of gain. It took less than an hour to ascend and half an hour to descend. Back at our vehicles by 4:30P, we continued to Cerro Gordo, taking time out to assist the Motherals, whose truck got stuck at the steep switchback turn that had challenged us all coming up this morning.

It was close to sunset by the time everyone had regrouped at the primitive campsite area about 5 miles up the heavily potholed Saline Valley Road from its junction with CA 136. At the campfire after dinner Steve Smith showed slides of his wilderness travels in the Inyo Mountains, and Ellen Grau showed some of various desert peaks.
