Ascent Trip ReportHiked in from the Adirondack Loj parking lot past Marcy Dam to Avalanche Camps Friday night. Left camp at 8:30 AM. Headed down the trail to Avalanche Lake and crossed the lake to the base of the Trap Dike. We ascended the Trap Dike with Brad Winer leading the two bulgy sections of ice. Kevin Zuech and I took turns breaking trail through the deep snow (knee deep in places). Our route took us to the tree line and up the new slide (post Irene) to the Summit. We followed the yellow trail markers down the ridge to where it changed to red trail markers then turned around and climbed back up the 50-100 ft to the summit so we could follow the yellow markers down the easier trail to Lake Arnold. Camp was packed up and we hiked out to our cars at the Adirondack Loj parking lot. |
