Ascent Trip Report

Started this hike from the Wheeler Peak Summit trailhead but returned to Wheeler Peak Campground via the Bristlecone-Glacier trail. Spent the previous night in Wheeler Peak Campground which allowed some time to acclimatize to the higher elevation. Once above the tree line, the wind was strong and constant. We used several of the man made stone windbreaks during our rest breaks and trail lunch. The trail disappeared under two different sections of snow which required small detours to bypass. The largest section of snow was 15 to 20 yards long. When we got to the scree slope and were walking only on rocks, the trail became less visible in places but was still fairly easy to follow. The summit provides amazing views in all directions, particularly to the East and South.
