Ascent Trip ReportThere are 3 Candidate High Point Areas for this County, Area 1 is northwest of Joshua and the other 2 Areas are southeast of Cresson. I visited all 3.
AREA 1, EASTERN POINT NORTHWEST OF JOSHUA, CADDO PEAK BM 1065 .... .6 miles RT.
From the intersection of Hwy I35W/174 in Burleson, we drove south on 174 for 7.5 miles to a right on FM917 in Joshua, 2 miles west right on FM1902, 1.2 miles north right on Caddo Peak Road, .4 miles east left on Caddo Peak Trail, .4 miles left (west) on Apache Trail then in 200 yards arrive at a chained dirt track on the right (across house # 1413 on the left). This was my TH, the HP is to the northwest.
I stepped over the chain gate and walked the track 200 yards north to a fence line, hopped the gate and walked 100 yards northwest to a second fence line where I hopped a second gate and walked/climbed a dirt road as it winds south to the summit at 200 yards ..... capped with an out-of-service/fenced-in Communication Tower with a door-less shed. The fence and the facility are in disrepair.
The BM is located 4 yards outside the northeast corner of the fence in a lower elevation, "USC&G Survey, CADDO 2, No3 1964", my GPS 32.48190,-97.40870.
AREA 2 & 3 SOUTHEAST OF CRESSON ... .5 miles RT for both Areas.
We went back to junction FM1902/FM917 and traveled west on 917 for 6.9 miles to a right on Hwy #171 in Godley, 6.4 miles north to a right on CR1000 (its another 1.5 miles north to #377 in Cresson), at 300 yards east we arrived at the crest-of-CR1000 with a gate on both sides .... Area 2 is in the pasture to the left (north) at 350 yards, Area 3 is to the right (south) at 50-100 yards. There are no restrictive signs.
AREA 2 .... I stepped through the gate and walked a farm track north to the obvious HP with grazing cattle in the pasture ... capped with a round cement water trough and a silo, my GPS 32.52061,-97.59629.
AREA 3 .... When I got back to the van from Area 2 Louis Presley, his wife and a number of dogs where at the gate. They own the Area 3 property with a small number of horses, cattle and about 10 dogs. Their main entrance "Little Cat Ranch" is on #171, 300 yards south of CR1000.
Louis is a pilot and was just recently looking at the question of the HP with no conclusion. I brought him up to speed on PB and COHP Association.
We walked the HP area together which is covered with mounds of dirt which he moved here (600 truck loads) when digging his pond, so its impossible to chose a HP. A N-S ridge line is obvious and we agreed that Area 2 appears to be higher in elevation than his property, although he wished it was. He was not aware of the 3rd Area at Joshua.
Louis is a very friendly individual and can be reached at phone #817-249-1414. He must be in some sort of a business because his phone number is posted at his main entrance in huge numbers.
