Ascent Trip ReportDeparted Cheaha State Park at 12:06 pm to drive to my next destination, Woodall Mountain, Mississippi. Drove down AL 281N (with 2 outstanding scenic overlooks along the route); AL 131 for .5m; AL 1N for 3.7m; Interstate 20W for 70m; I-65 for 3 miles; US-78/I-22 for 102m; MS 25 for 41m. At the 41 mile mark I saw the sign for Woodall mountain on the left hand side. I turned onto County Rd. 187. I drove a half mile to the next Woodall Mountain sign on the left hand side. I turned onto County Rd. 176. As you drive up, there is a lake off to the left behind some houses. I drove up to the next Woodall Mountain sign at the end of Woodall Mountain Rd. I turned right and drove up for about 5-6 minutes. The dirt road was fairly maintained with multiple trails/logging trails branching off from it. The steepest part is just before the very end. Once at the top I could only see to the west through a narrow strip cut through the woods. I arrived at 4:15ish, making my trip from Cheaha Mountain just over 4hrs., 10min with a couple of pit stops. Anyway, I took a picture of the benchmark, signed the registar, walked around the top (avoiding the mud puddles) and looked at the boulder with the missing plaque (A sad situation I think!). At 4:29pm I departed from the summit and drove down the same way I came for my trip back to northern Florida.
