Ascent Trip Report

The first hike of the year, it was a fairly cold day around high 20's low 30's. later in the morning i bought myself a pair of north face snow pants for like $45 at a local retailer here in Plymouth. I got a late start because i wanted to price my books for school at the bookstore, i didn't have any idea what mountain i was going to do today i just felt that it was my day off and i should do a mountain. i started at the base and worked my way up, the sign said it was 2.1 miles to the top. I got 1.9 miles in and there's a sign that says Mt. Morgan via cliffs, i decided why not. so i made my way over, you literally have to crawl into a small cave and up these three ladders to make it up to the top, once you get through the cave its like a giant opening to a beautiful view, you can see Squam and little Squam lake. Its unbelievable, if you go just a short ways further following the markers you make it to the top of Mt. Morgan, 2,220 feet. The view itself is worth the hike, I'd say its fairly easy, there wasn't to many difficult spots. I'd recommend this hike to any age group. If you are hiking in the winter time, especially around this time of year i encourage hikers to wear crampons they will save you, i didn't wear mine and it was a bit slick especially at the top. But i highly recommend this hike it's well worth it. If you're going on dress warm and be safe.
