Ascent Trip Report

Hooray! My 35th peak on the HPS list - not that I'm counting. Up from Clamshell and Rankin. Once we hit Rankin, the final assault onto this peak was pretty basic - just followed the ridge up to the radio tower, found a survey marker, and an HPS register. Overall - the trail was in great shape. Steep from miles 1-4 up to Clamshell and then just a few steep sections and bumps up to Rankin and Monrovia. Total hiking time from the car was 6 hours. Not a lot of brush on the trail and we only went down the wrong ridge once. Great day - temp at start was 40 degrees, and throughout the day warmed into the low 50s. A little bit of snow - but everything was mostly clear. Saw some substantial bear poop - and a resident of the neighborhood warned us of a bear - but we didn't see anything... or at least nothing chased us down the trail (that we were aware of). Great day in the mountains! STEEP trail at times - but lots of fun! With Christine Soskins.
