Ascent Trip Report

Hit the trail at 11pm, made it back to the car by 3:30am. I saw no other cars or people east of Lick Observatory. The landscape is quite pretty under the full moon once you start ascending the ridge. Of course, every white rock or patch of snow in the distance became the porch light on a cabin, and every twinkling star near the horizon in my peripheral vision was the headlights of a truck, headed this way. I enjoyed myself though.

There were several creek crossings, all jumpable despite the winter storm system that had gone through a couple days before. A bicycle would have been nice for the flatter parts, but mud would have been a problem.

The turn off to go up the ridge was very easy to miss. I was walking along a creek when I noticed there was a trail heading uphill on the other side. Then I noticed the area of flattened grass where vehicles had crossed through the creek. Tricky!

Poked around a bit at the summit, found a witness benchmark loose on the ground but no summit register.

I really hope this place ends up as part of Coe Park some time in the (likely distant) future. It'd be one of the nicest hikes in the park.
