Ascent Trip Report

From the "School Bus Turn Around", it's about a mile up Mt Teneriffe Road-Trail to an obvious junction to the right. This old logging road winds around a few creek beds and past two bike trails and ends at a sign pointing to Teneriffe Falls (aka Kamikaze falls). The hike to the falls is pretty mellow and even in mid-October with little recent rainfall there is enough water to make it an impressive sight.

From here the trail gets steep (we're talking over 2500' in less than 1.5 miles), rocky, and very loose in some places. For an unofficial trail it is surprisingly easy to follow, with flags marking the few vague areas near the top. Around half way from the falls to summit is a clearing along some rocky ground, and from there I was completely under canopy until emerging a few hundred feet from the top.

At summit i found a lone husky with a collar, but wasn't able to approach close enough to read her tags. Worried that her owner may have taken a fall, I spent about an hour scrambling around the edges and yelling for anyone who could hear. With an hour an a half until sunset, I abandoned the search and hurried down to check the parking area for cars and possibly notify someone. To my relief there was a gentleman waiting at the bottom who immediately asked if I had seen his dog. He had been separated from his dog near the top and thought she may have went down looking for him. He seemed relieved to have a report on her whereabouts and condition, but didn't look too exited about the trip back to the top in the morning to find her. I was just glad I didn't have to call search and rescue.
