Ascent Trip ReportDrove to White Butte from Dickinson ND after spending the night with some great couchsurfing hosts - took 94 W then 85 S.
To find the trail: take a LEFT onto a dirt road off of 85 if you are going South, right before the town of Amidon. There is a sign but it's after you pass the road. The farm road is fairly bumpy and all dirt to begin with - high clearance vehicle is better. At about 2 miles into the farm road drive it turns into what is basically tire tracks through tall grass until you hit 5 miles from the highway to the base of the trail, which is marked by a little mailbox and runs along a fence.
The hike itself is easy - it took me 30 minutes to summit. Some loose mud here and there. Very interesting formations at the base of the butte make for some cool pictures. This peak is attainable at any time of the year, as I've heard. I had great weather on the first day of December.
Feels good to check another highpoint of the list!
Notable: Possibly the first Grandfather/Grandson combo to have peaked White Butte.
