Ascent Trip ReportThis is apparently Weyerhaeuser land which of course is subject to Weyerhaeuser rules. Probably only accessible as a drive up during hunting season for modern firearm deer season. Weyerhaeuser recreation website actually had info on current status. At the time of our visit you could legally drive to the top provided that you follow all of their rules.
Our route, which went through several open gates was:
Turn Left/South at 46.556 and -123.612 onto A Line
Turn Left/East at 46.544 and -123.6174 onto Grants Pass Road; possibly called B Line?
Hard Turn Back Right at 46.53 and -123.5679 onto possibly F Line; or some other name (A 1000?)
Turn Right at 46.5218 and -123.56214. This might be called the F Line.
Quickly turn Right again at 46.52068 and -123.56257 and this is definitely called the F Line
After several miles the F Line hits the A Line at a T. Turn Left at 46.48808 and -123.56796
At a fork go left on the A Line at 46.48529 and -123.56328. Gated F line forks right here.
Take the hard right uphill (ignore softer right) at 46.46169 and -123.54626. This may require high clearance. Short enough to walk from here anyway.
Turn with a switchback left at 46.46247 and -123.55122. Drive to summit.
The summit is a tower complex that has been graded. The usual thing. Lameness. Roads are real good en route up until the last mile and even then it is OK. Several gates en route which were all open during hunting season. Many many other turns and spurs that we did not take that I did not mention. Generally just want to stick on the main road or the named road between my GPS points and I believe that all of the roads we took are as shown on the current topo. I used the Weyerhaeuser Pe Ell Tree Farm map that I got at Metskers which is very helpful. Only recommended for peakbaggers rather than normal humans. This peak is a Mtneers peakbagging pin list for some odd reason. It may have been worthwhile as a peak sometime in the past when there was a lookout and if perhaps it had a trail or something. Not so worthwhile these days as a driveup. Bikeable if you are gated out but it is a long ways from the highway.
