Ascent Trip Report

We chose to do the Tongariro crossing in one day and we climbed both Ngauruhoe & Tongariro along the way. We were in cloud most the day, with occasional glimpses of the scenery and there was wind and light rain on and off throughout the day. We started at the Mangatepopo carpark at 8am and arrived at the other end just in time for the (last) shuttle bus at 5:30pm. The 650m altitude is from the Red Crater along the Tongariro Alpine Crossing as Ngauruhoe is considered a "side-trip"
