Ascent Trip Report

A woods track/road/bushwack to 4 areas ...... 1.4 miles RT

This is the 3rd day of a 13 day County High Pointing trip to western PA. We spent the first 2 days visiting family in Welland, Ontario.

According to the different reports there are 4 Candidate High Point Areas for this county, all off of Hendersonville road, south east of Sandy Lake. I followed the directions in the other TRs which still apply, my purpose here is to update/provide a bit more detail to the directions. I have numbered my areas in accordance with Fred Lobdell's TR

We drove south on I79, got off at exit 130 and picked hwy 358 east for 4.8 miles to a right turn on 173 south in Sandy Lake, .3 miles stayed left at the fork on SR 2021 (unsigned Hendersonville Road which becomes Bradley Road), in another 3 miles we arrived at the crest-of-the-road and house #885 on the right.... 225 yards before this house is a woods track on the north side of the road. We parked at this track, this was my TH for the 4 areas.

AREA 1 (per PB)
I walked/followed the woods track northeasterly about 250 yards to where it bends northwesterly on the ridge and in 100 yards reaches the HP ..... fairly obvious 5 yards to the right, my GPS read 41.31188,-80.04836.

AREA 2 .... 850 yards RT for areas 1 & 2
I continued northeasterly on the track 75 yards to the obvious HP, chose my spot at 41.31190,-80.04907. A bump 50 yards beyond contends for the HP.
I backtracked to the TH.

AREA 3 .... 500 yards RT
This spot is north of the road right opposite house #885. I walked the main road east to house number #885, then up the steep north embankment to my chosen HP ..... 10 yards from the road, GPS 41.30994,-80.04768.

AREA 4 .... .6 miles RT
From my TH I walked west of the main road 40 yards to a woods track on the left, I followed it south and at 100 yards the main track goes right to a pipe line, I stayed left on the lesser track which descended 100 yards to a corduroy bridge across a wet/swampy area. I could see the HP area left-of-south through the trees at about 300 yards. From here I followed tracks/bushwacked to the high ground on a grass area..... chose my spot at GPS 41.30759,-80.04957. A small pond is 75 yards to the southeast, a red barn 100 yards to the east, house #885 can be seen at 200 yards to the northeast, and at 250 yards to the southwest is a house.

From here we moved-on to Butler County.
