Ascent Trip Report

After watching Jon Kedrowski speak about his sleeping on the 14ers in order to prepare for a Mt. Everest climb I was inspired to sleep on the summit of a 14er. Mt Massive is in my backyard and two of my friends were already planning to climb it and spend the night on top, so I joined them. We drove out to the TH on Halfmoon Creek Road and started up the Southeast Slopes route at about 4:30. I am currently incredibly out of shape, so I rode the struggle bus all the way up to the summit of massive which I arrived at later than my friends by about 30 minutes. I summited at about 8:30. In some places the snow was knee deep but I summited. We set up the tent on a snow platform about 15 feet below the summit and hunkered down for the night. It was not as cold as I thaught it would be. Inside the tent it was 20 degrees outside it was about 0 with 60 mph winds that started after we finished setting up the tent! The next day I rode the struggle bus all the way down the mountain back to the car and ended the sleeping on Massive adventure.
