Ascent Trip Report

Walked from hotel to follow ski lift across the meadows. Then up the Val de Courre to the col on the ridge. We were not alone. Hundreds of fell runners on the Course de Sancy were running down the path. I do not recommend choosing this day. We constantly had to get off the narrow path so as not to impede the runners. It was however fascinating watching the later starters on the skyline to our left. The narrow ridge with a small chained section (for safety) was not as difficult as we had been led to believe by other walkers. Spectacular summit, marred by flies. There were also large numbers of people supporting the runners who probably used the cable car to reach the top. The descent, after lunch, was much easier as we were going in the same direction as the tail end runners. We had been warned not to come down the snow mobile route as it is gritty and therefore slippery.
