Ascent Trip Report

Wow, this one took a while and is POSTED. You will see hundreds of Plantation Security Inc. signs. After reading Ben Lostrocco's report, I had a healthy wariness in this county. For the northeast contours I parked at the Church on Sunny Hill road. There was a driveway with a "POSTED, KATE IRELAND" sign. I tagged the highpoint near the driveway, and headed north into the brush. It was pretty easy going and the second HP was tagged. I never saw a house. I headed west until I hit a fence, which was in bad shape. On the far side of the fence it was much denser, but that was fine with me as I figured it made me less visible. For the HP to the south of the road on the ridge, it was right out in the open, and I didn't want to come in from the road to the south, so I took the longer route behind the church. Never saw any security, but I would be very careful here.

For the western point, I parked at Orchard Pond Road (dirt) near a driveway of sorts that is probably used for construction vehicles. This probably wasn't the best parking place, as several people stopped to ask if I needed help. I decided that speed was in order, and headed up to the hilly area to the north. I should have avoided the brushy areas, as I got covered in briars. You will hit a powerline right of way, which makes things easier. Head up to the top. On the way down, I found a neat old hand pump, sitting all by itself. I guess there was a farm here, now long gone.
