Ascent Trip Report

After spending a night in the car we began the aproach hike at first light on saturday September 8th. The Cross Mountain trail was pleasent but decievingly longer than I expected. The storm clouds were looming and Lizard Head was completley socked in. Reguardless we continued on after I dished out some convincing to my partner Nick. We left the trail onto a ridge that lead to the Southwest Chimmney and arrived at the base shortly after scrambling on loose talus and scree. At the base we geared up just as the weather began to get better. I started leading in hiking boots because of some of my injuries that prevent me from wearing climbing shoes. The climb in boots is deffinatly possible but significantly harder. After bairley starting the climb I knew it was not going to happen. I told Nick that with the horribly choss rock it is a high possibility that I would fall. Nick was not comfortable with that so I was not going to push it, I downclimbed. Once at the base Nick said he didnt even want to try, Im not sure why because he is a much better rock climber than I am. So with that at about 12,600 feet we began the hike out. There is really nothing that Nick or I could blame on us not getting to the summit except that we are just not good enough of climbers yet and were in over our head on Lizard Head. Next summer Ill be back for sure.
