Ascent Trip ReportFinal peak of our 4-peak day.... 18+ miles and approx 6500 feet elevation gain as well. Crossed the ridge from Bighorn and followed the use trail to Ontario. Beautiufl clear views - submitted around 2 pm. Hiking back to the Icehouse Canyon TH by 2:15. It was around 2:30 that we first noticed a large cloud of smoke. Within 75 minutes (by 3:30) - the cloud had grown approx 5X its original size. I chose to run down Icehouse Canyon towards my car, as the wind was blowing and I could see other hiking groups running. The rest in my party choose to walk down the trail - I felt somewhat silly running several miles downhill after a long day - but something about the fire and smoke cloud didn't seem right. And with other hiking groups running, it was pretty much a no-brainer for me. Made it to the car and saw the area where one hikes Baldy and the 3Ts on fire - very smokey and the orange glow was apparent. Emergency vehicles coming up the mountain as I was driving down. Surreal end to an otherwise great day hiking.
