Ascent Trip Report

On Saturday the first we hiked up in a hail storm to the Lupine Medows camp site in Garnett Canyon. We slept through the hail storm apparently. I had no idea that the weather was not perfect because I slept like a baby. The next day we woke up at two oclock in the morning to start our summit attempt. We ate a breakfast of macaroni and cheese and headed off. About two hours into our climb aproaching the lower saddle through the glacial moraine we took a break to rest. As we rested we took our packs off and the friend of mine whos name I will not disclose took off the rope and unknowingly left it on the ground. An hour after that I hear a "oh fuck!". That is when he remembered that the rope was gone. We knew that once we went all the way back, found the rope and got back to the highpoint that we were currently at it would be hours which would leave us without enough time to go to the summit. Completley and utterly dissapointed and frustraited we turned around knowing we probably could not summit safley and descend without going into a heavy storm. We hiked back to the medows, broke camp and hiked out. The lesson I learned from this is that shit happens and that when it does you learn lessons, none of the people in the group will ever make the mistake of putting down the rope and forgeting to bring it with them when the break is over.
