Ascent Trip ReportSeven miles west of Searchlight, Nevada on route 164, turn south on the newly oiled and graded dirt road to Hart Mine. At 0.5 miles past milepost 16 turn left (E) onto a dirt road. (The Hart Mine Road can also be reached by driving about 28.4 miles north of Goffs on the Lanfair Valley Road. The new oiled road is about 8 miles east of Lanfair Valley Road.) Reset your odometer as you turn off the oiled road. At 0.6 miles there is a three-way fork and a historic marker about the Hart Site. Turn onto the farthest left and poorer dirt road. At 0.8 miles go straight where there is a fork on the left. There will be an old chimney on your left at 1.0 miles and a cross road where you should go straight. Also go straight at another cross road with a wood tower on the left side at 1.2 miles. The road soon enters a broad canyon and the summit is visible straight ahead. After 1.6 miles park on the right before the road makes a switchback to the left up a hill. This route is passable by most high-clearance vehicles, 4WD was not needed. UTM coordinates at the trailhead are: 672900E, 3907460N. Start the hike heading NW up an old road that will end in a few hundred feet. Stay to the right of the small bump with an elevation of 1520 m and scramble up the steeper slopes through the rock cliffs to the top of the ridge. The hike is 1.5 miles round-trip with a gain of 860 ft. and it should take about 45 minutes to reach the top. On the summit there is a good view of the mining operation to the south and Hart Peak is 3.0 miles to the north. 10/95 RLC
