Ascent Trip ReportBeautiful weather as my nephew and I took a leisurely walk up North Point & Mountain from the picnic/beach trailhead at North/South Lake State Campground. We ascended along the blue-marked Escarpment Trail (with multiple eastern-facing viewpoints at Artists Rock, Sunset Rock, Prospect Rock & Newman's Ledge) to wonderful vistas from North Point. We continued hiking for a distance along the North Mountain ridgeline to attain the summit proper before descending along the red-marked Mary's Glen trail.
The trails themselves are impeccably maintained and easy to follow; for those considering hiking this mountain with children, let me offer my STRONGEST recommendation. This hike features modest grades (about 900 feet of elevation gain over slightly-less-than 3 miles) and plenty of things to see (rock overhangs, huge rock slabs, caves, etc.) even without the benefit of summit views/vistas. What a wonderful hike!
