Ascent Trip ReportApprox 2 miles north of Ladoga on the Sites-Ladoga Rd turn west on Goat Mountain Rd. The unpaved county road passes Digger Pine campground (3.6 miles), then heads steeply uphill to connect with FS M5 (12 miles), which runs between Fouts Springs and Hough Springs. At 17 miles turn onto FSR 17N02. At 18.4 miles ignore the turnoff on the right to Letts Lake and continue straight, passing the turnoff to Youngs Corral, and at 20.5 miles park at the locked gate. It is about a 1-mile walk from here to the top of Goat Mountain and the abandoned, worse-for-wear L.O. Below the small rocky summit outcrop was a memorial with fresh appearing flowers. Snow Mountain, Mt. St. John, and Mt. St. Helena are the principal peaks in view.
I returned via FSR 17N02 through the Letts Valley Recreation area via Letts Lake to FS M10 and Fouts Springs (12 miles from Goat Mountain gate). |
