Ascent Trip Report

From Independence and U.S. 395 it is approx. 21.3 miles (4.5 of which are paved) and a 5,300' elevation gain up Mazourka Canyon Rd to the very summit of Mazourka Peak via Badger Flat. The road actually becomes easier as it climbs higher. The presence of repeater antennae on top no doubt explains the good condition of the road. The sweeping views of the Sierra escarpment from this "drive-up" are indeed impressive. Directly east across the Owens Valley is Taboose Pass on the Sierra crest, flanked on the north by Split Mountain.
