Ascent Trip ReportI drove from Genesee over the dirt road, rough in spots, to Walker Mine Road, then over a somewhat better dirt road beyond Nye Meadows to a signed saddle 1 mile below Mt. Ingalls. A narrow, single-lane road leads to the open summit, the Plumas CoHP and site of a former fire lookout, which relocated by airlift in 1986 to the County Fairgrounds at Quincy. I had no problem driving my Mercury station wagon to the top, although it would have been difficult to turn around before reaching the summit area, where a circular road takes you back downhill. On the return I drove 9 miles on FSR 25N10 to its intersection with the Lake Davis Road, which is paved from Lightning Tree Campground to CA 89. There's quite a network of roads in the Mt. Ingalls area and signage is sometimes lacking, Care must be taken to stay on route, as the Forest Service map for Plumas NF can be confusing. |
