Ascent Trip Report

The spacious, well appointed ranger station at Silver Lake is worth a visit. From here drive 10.6 miles south on FSR 28; left on FSR 036 for 1.9 miles; left on FSR 492 for 2.4 miles to a locked gate. Walk from here for about 0.9 mile and 1,000' of gain to the end of the dirt road, just below the summit L.O. Veteran staffer Kathi Lane was on duty today. The original L.O. cab was built in 1912, replaced in 1936 with an R-6 cab, which was replaced in 1967 with the present R-4 cab. The flat roof was replaced by a hip roof in 1992.
